The question has been posed before; but in the company of 30 entrepreneurs from Rotterdam, it was given an airing that blew in new life. Presenters have the habit of selling their individual products and services, as well as their expert opinions to an audience. But as is mostly the case with our events, this lead to comment and debate that was appreciated from both sides.
Ninety-five percent saving on lighting costs, that was the offer of Theo Hoefman of BNConnect. Spectacular savings for most companies - but it turned out to be more for factories and showrooms - for the more stylish and mood lighting, the type we’d want for modern offices and the home, we shall have to wait until the beginning of the New Year! (TheGreen shall have a special offer for you then!)
Peter van Luttervelt of EcoDrive gave a rousing speech that brought the issues of sustainable entrepreneurship to the fore. His easy style and manner allowed for debate and conjecture. The debate ran into the cocktail. While people lifted their glass, others were able to learn and test their abilities on the EcoDrive simulator, learning techniques to save fuel and the planet.
Indeed, Peter’s view that each of us can make a difference by our every day behaviour left us all thinking. Let’s stop waiting for government and big industry to take steps, the big difference comes from thinking of our actions and changing them a little. The challenge is making the changes in behaviour fun and not sacrifice - let’s put our minds to it!
P.S. - As chairman of the green I should not gloat, but I did win the EcoChallenge with the most fuel efficient driving style. But that is a simulator, my challenge as is that of us all is to bring it to the real world.
